Introducing Scite MCP
Starting today, you can connect Scite to the AI tools you already use. Search 250M+ articles, evaluate research with Smart Citations, and access full-text PDFs - all without leaving your workflow.
The Scite MCP works with ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, and any tool that supports the Model Context Protocol. Once connected, your AI tool doesn't just search for papers. It searches inside them, evaluates how they've been cited, and helps you access the ones you need.
Here's how it works in practice. Once connected, you ask your AI tool a research question and instead of a generic answer, you get results grounded in real literature - with citation context that shows what's been supported or contradicted, and direct access to the PDFs you're entitled to.
Three things no other research MCP does
Full-text search, not just metadata. Other integrations search titles and abstracts. Scite searches inside the full text of articles, which means your AI tool finds results that keyword-matching on metadata alone would miss. We do this while fully respecting publisher access rights - we never expose content you don't have the right to access.
Smart Citations that guide AI toward trustworthy research. When your AI tool retrieves a paper through Scite, it doesn't just get the paper. It gets context: how many times that paper has been cited, and whether those citations supported, mentioned, or contrasted its findings. This is a real signal that helps AI tools distinguish landmark studies from noise.
Built-in access resolution. Most research tools stop at the citation. Scite goes further. Our MCP includes an access resolver that figures out how you can actually read the paper. Open access articles are delivered directly. If your organization has a LibKey or GetFTR integration, you'll get access instructions automatically - proxy links via OpenURL, inter-library loan options, or purchasing through Article Galaxy. We're also rolling out support for custom institutional configurations, so organizations can connect their specific proxies, OpenURL resolvers, and Article Galaxy accounts.
