Observation of two types of charge-density-wave orders in superconducting La2-xSrxCuO4
Abstract: The discovery of charge- and spin-density-wave (CDW/SDW) orders in superconducting cuprates has altered our perspective on the nature of high-temperature superconductivity (SC). However, it has proven difficult to fully elucidate the relationship between the density wave orders and SC. Here, using resonant soft X-ray scattering, we study the archetypal cuprate La 2- x Sr x CuO 4 (LSCO) over a broad doping range. We reveal …

“…In the context of LSCO, we now discuss some aspects which need further investigation. The RIXS experiment [29] in LSCO suggests a CDW-driven phonon softening, implying that in the doping regime considered in the experiment, there might be no signature of the magnetic order and only CDW correlations survive, which is also in accordance with previous experimental observations [12,13]. Hence, our theoretical model which involves coupling between phonons, CDW and SC is a consistent model for describing phonon softening in the vicinity of the topological transition in this material.…”

“…The charge order of optimally doped LSCO exhibits a short correlation length, ranging from 22 Å to 12 Å. Consistent with previous results of LSCO, the CDW are slightly suppressed in the superconducting phase as the temperature is decreased across T C [5,9].…”

“…As the temperature decreases to T = 43 K (below T sdw ≈ 50 K), the CDW signal becomes considerably stronger. Further cooling to T = 25 K (situated below T pdw ), results in a distinctly sharper CDW stripe ordering peak, characterized by a correlation length (ξ K ≈ 61 Å) that surpasses 8 unit cells (8a ≈ 30 Å) along the a-axis, in line with prior studies [11,49]. In addition, at T = 25 K, an excess of intensity distribution around K/2 is observed (indicated by the arrow in the figure).…”
